I just heard that Joe Kubert passed away over the weekend. He was 85.
I missed out on a lot of his work because I rarely bought war comics growing up but I always loved his art. It had a raw visceral quality that gave it immediacy and his characters weight. When his characters felt pain, you felt their pain.
Abraham Stone and Ragman in particular stand out for me. The more I think of it, the more examples I can think of, of great examples of his art.
